IDI Work stream Global Foundations Unit

Beneficiary level: Global
Project status: Ongoing
INTOSAI region(s): AFROSAI, AFROSAI-E, CREFIAF, ARABOSAI, ASOSAI, CAROSAI, EUROSAI, OLACEFS, PASAI
Duration from: 2024-01-01
Duration to: 2029-12-31

Our Global Foundations Unit (GFU) adresses and influences the enabling environment for SAI capacity development. This includes global partnerships in support of SAI capacity development; global measurement and monitoring of SAI performance; global initiatives to mobilise and broker SAI support, and communication and advocacy to promote the role and benefits of SAIs.

Global Voice Advocating for SAIs

Partner with INTOSAI bodies to:

·         Communicate the value and benefits of SAIs to global, regional and country level stakeholders

·         Advocate for SAI independence, greater use of SAI audit reports and support for SAI capacity development

·         Promote robust evidence of SAI impact

·         Develop powerful, relevant success stories building on audit reports on topics of global interest

·         Gather global SAI performance data and provide insights on SAI performance

·         Scan horizons to identify and share trends likely to impact the global SAI community

·         Follow UN lead in response to global issues impacting SAIs and INTOSAI, acting with political sensitivity but not silence

We will continue our long term support for the INTOSAI-Donor Cooperation (IDC), and enhance partnerships  with key stakeholders in the accountability space to raise awareness of the importance of SAIs and contribute to the strategic priority of ‘Public Trust in SAIs’. Our measurement of SAI performance will continue with the triannual SAI Global Stocktaking Reports.

Our brokerage initiatives can help SAIs access needed financial and technical support. The BUSS – Brokering Upscaled SAI Support – will be rolled out across INTOSAI regions to facilitate direct dialogue between development partners and SAIs on funding. The Global SAI Accountability Initiative (GSAI) targets financing, direct resources, expertise and peer support to eight SAIs globally.
